Identity, Visual Language, Brand Guidelines
Yukon University
As Yukon College was set to transition into its new University status, it was looking for a new identity that embraced its unique Northern spirit and varied First Nations communities, culture and traditions, bringing to life the resilience and resourcefulness of northern living and their deep rooted connection to the land.
We set out to create a bold identity from a stylized crocus, a flower native to the Yukon and the first flower to bloom every spring. The crocus captures the resiliency, passion, and strength of the North. Like the people of the Yukon, it doesn’t thrive in spite of the harsh conditions — it thrives because of them.
The rich colour palette reflects the hues of the Northern Lights and symbolizes their vibrant communities and collective sense of pride, while the nature-inspired graphic devices bring to life their deep connection to the lands on which they live.
